Home Remedies and Herbal Medicine for Congestive Heart Failure

Try a heart-friendly herb. The leaves and flowers of the herb hawthorn contain abundant supplies of compounds called flavonoids. Flavonoids improve the heart's pumping ability and the flow of blood through the circulatory system. "Hawthorn is very useful in treating CHF, especially in the early stages;" Dr. Pizzorno says.

Since hawthorn is such a potent herb, check with your doctor before you begin taking it. It may interfere with some high blood pressure medications and could be dangerous to those with low blood pressure.

Feel better with willow bark. The herb willow bark contains a compound, salicin, that's the chemical forerunner of aspirin. Like aspirin, willow bark can help prevent the blood clotting that leads to heart attack and stroke. If the latest research is any indication, the herb may also benefit people with CHF.

If you'd like to try willow bark, take it as a tea, suggests James A. Duke, Ph.D. Simmer 1 teaspoon of the powdered herb in 1 cup of boiling water for 10 minutes, then strain. Drink two to three cupfuls daily.

Social Support

Find someone to lean on. People with CHF who get emotional support from others are much more likely to manage their symptoms effectively. Harland Krumholz, M.D., associate professor of medicine at Yale University School of Medicine, analyzed the medical records of 292 elderly women who had developed heart failure. He found that compared with those who received the most emotional support, the women who felt socially isolated were eight times more likely to complain of CHF symptoms.

To find a CHF support group in your area, ask your doctor or contact your local office of the American Heart Association.

Home Remedies

Lose those extra pounds. Being overweight raises your blood pressure and makes your heart work harder to move blood through all the extra tissue. Losing weight, on the other hand, lowers your blood pressure and gives your tired heart a break.

Research shows that the combination of weight control and sodium restriction can make an even bigger difference in your blood pressure and, therefore, in CHF symptoms.

Varicose Veins - Facts, Causes & Remedies

Facts
Varicose (derived from the Latin root "varix" which means twisted) simply means swollen. Veins, like arteries are blood vessels. Arteries carry blood from the heart to the rest of the body while veins carry blood back to the heart. Did you know there are more than 60,000 miles of blood vessels within the body? Deep veins are veins found deep in the leg muscles and when these muscles contract (e.g. when walking or jogging), they force blood flow upstream along the deep veins. This is how blood is delivered from the legs to the heart. There are small 1-way valves along the walls of the veins that prevent blood from flowing in the reverse direction. There are 3 types of such valved veins in the legs : deep veins, superficial veins found under the skin and perforated veins whose valves allow blood to flow from the superficial veins to the deep veins. Perforated veins means they pass through the thick leg muscles to each the deep veins. Varicose veins result when the 1-way valves become faulty causing a blood build-up in the veins. This stretches, enlarges and widens the veins. Varicose veins are visible near the surface of the skin and they appear as bulging bluish-colored twisted knots and even the skin feels bumpy. They can show up anywhere though mostly on the calfs and thighs, affecting both men and women alike. Varicose veins can cause aching, burning, heaviness, tiredness, cramps and itching in the legs or they may not cause any pain at all. Though deeper varicose veins are not visible, the skin above them may darkened and swell. In severe cases, varicose veins can burst or develop open sores (ulcers) on the skin around the ankles and heels (e.g. stasis dermatitis). Varicose veins occuring within the anal area are called piles (hemorrhoids). Spider veins are also known as thread veins, broken capillaries, spider hemangiomas or angiomas. They are the dilation of a small group of blood vessels located near to the skin's surface which leads to red, blue or purple discolorations on the veins.

Causes

PRESSURE SORES

Family history. An inherited weakness of the valves in the veins. With age, the elasticity of the walls along the veins are weakened which stretches the veins. Hormonal changes within the body during pregnancy and menopause relaxes the walls of the veins. In addition, during pregnancy the veins may receive extra pressure from the expanding uterus (womb) causing dilation. Also, the use of birth control pills or estrogen replacement therapy alters the female hormone levels which might lead to varicose veins. Deep vein thrombosis (economy-class syndrome), a blood clot in the deep vein. Obesity and lifting heavy objects are also contributing factors. Varicose veins can show up as a result of liver disease.

Treatment

Varicose veins are usually harmless. They can be treated with ligation surgery or sclerotherapy (injected medication to close affected vein so that blood moves to another vein). Spider veins can be treated with sclerotherapy and laser. Though newer and supposedly effective removal methods will surely be developed in time to come, it is always important to make sure you gather lots of information about these procedures and seek professional and sound advice before deciding what is good for you. Seek a physician if you cut a varicose vein, experience pain, swelling or develop skin ulcers near a varicose vein.

How to reduce varicose veins

Do regular exercise. Walking, running, cycling and swimming keep blood vessels healthy. Stick to a high-fiber and low-salt diet. Kick off the high heels. Avoid tight-fitting clothings or undergarments that restrict blood flow at the waist, groin and legs (e.g. girdles, stockings and socks). If elastic stockings are recommended, wear them before getting out of bed in the morning. Do not leave legs crossed or bent for a long period. If work requires prolonged standing or sitting, move and stretch those legs, rotate ankles and wiggle the toes once in a while. Do leg stretching exercises daily. Raise legs above the level of the heart whenever possible. Rest those legs on pillows while sleeping. Stop smoking (http://www.tipsofallsorts.com/stopsmoking.html). Horse chestnut (Latin name : Aesculus hippocastanum) is a herb known to reduce pain and swelling. Gotu kola (Latin name : Centella asiatica), another herb has been found to improve blood circulation. Butcher's broom (Latin name : Ruscus aculeatus) a herb that has been used to improve blood circulation in the legs and treat hemorrhoids. Vitamin E helps improve blood circulation and protects blood vessels from damage. According to Dr. John Heinerman in his book 'Heinerman's Encyclopedia of Healing Juices' (Prentice Hall, 1994), rubbing with persimmon juice once the bulging has started can prevent the condition from worsening. Nutrients found in a persimmon fruit include calcium, iron, sodium, potassium, vitamin A, C and K. Frankincense may also offer relief. Dilute 2-3 drops of frankincense essential oil in almond oil and then massage.

Sore Throat Home Remedies - 7 Recipes to Make a Gargle on Your Own

Sore throat is usually accompanied with a pain when swallowing and sometimes even with a sensation of burning and tightness in the throat. A gargle can help you to avoid experiencing the unpleasant feelings.

Gargle warm salt-water. Salt possesses strong antibacterial and disinfectant features. But - do not overdo it! If you gargle too salty water frequently, you make your mucous membrane vulnerable, and it becomes an easy target for viruses. Weak salt-water prevails over strong one. Add a point of knife of salt or even less to a glass of warm water and the gargle is ready. Mix 4-5 drops of calendula tincture with a glass of warm water and gargle. Infuse 2 tablespoons of granulated herbs of common plantain with a glass of boiling water. Leave for 20 minutes to brew and the gargle is ready. You can drink the decoction as well. Drink one fourth of a glass of the mixture 3 times a day. Boil a tablespoon of oak bark in a glass of water on small fire for 15 minutes. Decant the mixture and wait till it becomes cold. Gargle 3 times a day. Infuse a tablespoon of granulated tops of hedge hyssop with a glass of boiling water. Cover for 10-15 minutes to brew. Gargle 3-4 times a day. Infuse 2 teaspoons of Johnny Jump Up with a glass of boiling water. Cover to let the tincture brew. When the decoction has become cold, decant it. Gargle as often as needed. You can drink the tincture as well. Infuse a tablespoon of chamomiles with a glass of boiling water. Cover and leave for half an hour to infuse. Effective Asian Remedies for Relief From Sore Feet

In this article, I will describe several approaches traditionally used in Asia to combat sore feet and to promote holistic maintenance of the body as a whole. While originating in the Far East, many of these methods can easily be applied in our modern western society for effective sore foot relief.

Chinese Foot Reflexology

PRESSURE SORES

According to principals of Chinese medicine, the sensory nerves of the internal organs of the body travel down a meridian that culminates at the bottom of the feet. Therefore, from the Chinese perspective, not only do sore feet indicate potential imbalances within the body, but by their very nature, the soles of the feet are highly susceptible to soreness unless they are given the care and maintenance they require.

Chinese reflexology is the application of pressure to specific areas of the soles of the feet. This application of pressure can help relieve pain and soreness, boost blood circulation, and also target potential imbalances within the body's organs.

Chinese reflexology is readily available in the west, particularly in most larger cities. Usually, a Chinese foot massage lasts for about one hour, and includes a deep foot massage that should leave your feet feeling renewed and relieved of soreness. Expect to pay about per massage, which while reasonable, may be too pricey of an option for daily or even weekly maintenance that your feet really require.

In Japan, foot reflexology is called "soku shin do" or "zoku shin do," which literally translates as "foot heart way," suggesting again that the foot is the true "heart," or center, of the body's organs. Japanese foot massage was derived from China, and like Chinese foot massage targets the pressure points of the feet which connect to the body's organs. However, the Japanese counterpart has evolved into its own unique set of techniques, including the application of shiatsu, or finger pressure, and the use of oils.

Japanese Foot Massage Tools

Japanese are highly conscious of the importance of healthy foot maintenance. In medieval Japan, commoners were forbidden to ride horses, which meant they had to travel everywhere on foot. In modern Japan as well, because cars are impractical in the crowded cities, most people still today do considerable walking every day. Not surprisingly given this history, a huge assortment of foot massage tools has evolved in Japan to combat chronic foot soreness.

The most popular Japanese foot massage tool is the takefumi foot massager. This simple device is basically a half piece of bamboo, about a foot long, that users simply lay on the floor and step on for a minute or so.

The natural arch of the takefumi provides a perfectly hard yet smooth surface for a quick, soothing foot massage that thoroughly massages the soles of the feet, providing instant relief from foot soreness while working all of the pressure points that connect to the body's organs. Although the takefumi originated in Japan's medieval period, today you can still find a takefumi in nearly every Japanese household.

Could there be a connection between the Japanese devotion to daily foot care through foot massage, and the fact that the Japanese enjoy the world's highest life expectancy?

Effective Home Remedies For Mouth Sores

Mouth sores are an annoying and painful condition that can ruin your meals and entire day. Although some people would regard the cause as resulting from high body temperature exhausted through the membranes in your mouth, this basically stem from a small opening or cut that may become infected or irritated over time.

gel cushions for pressure sores

The outbreak or increase in size and pain can come from certain foods that aggravate the existing condition. It is helpful to know some details about the treatment for mouth sores that can eradicate the problem quickly using only the regular fare you have at home.

PRESSURE SORES

Here are some helpful home remedies for mouth sores.

1. Pain. There are two types of mouth sores, canker or cold, can be present inside your mouth. Canker sores are much more painful and are usually the ones that plague you. As soon as you notice it, put an ice cube or Q-tip directly on the sore to numb the pain and drain out pus, if there are any present. This numbing of the pain will definitely hurt but, at least, it takes away the sensation for the better part of your day. Avoid eating very warm or sweet foods, as these can easily aggravate the pain.

2. Infection. Bacteria most likely may be dwelling in the sore, which irritates the nerve endings and causes you a lot of pain and discomfort. You may use gargling solutions and antibacterial agents, then apply or gargle accordingly. Also swish a lot of water inside your mouth then spit out to keep the area moist and clean.

3. Baking soda. Baking soda is also known for its antibacterial and soothing effect. Mix one-half teaspoon of baking soda and water to make a paste and directly apply on the mouth sore. Keep it on the sore for a good two minutes, then rinse the entire area with water. Baking soda helps dry the area, which will keep bacteria from proliferating.

4. Salt. This is another helpful antibacterial agent that can rapidly heal your mouth sore. You may either mix two teaspoons of salt and lukewarm water then gargle and swish in your mouth, or directly put salt powder on the wound. The latter would hurt a lot but the healing will also be faster.

5. Food. Some foods may be the cause of the outbreak, so make sure that you avoid eating those. Some allergies may only transpire after two days so keep a record of everything you ate to specifically determine the kind that triggers a reaction. Have antihistamines ready to counter any sudden reactions from unknown sources.

6. Hygiene. Whether or not you have an existing mouth sore, proper oral hygiene is a must to ensure that your mouth membranes remain free from bacteria and other agents that may cause outbreaks. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, gargle with mouthwash and floss to take out food particles that may be stuck inside your mouth. Also visit your dentist at least twice a year to make sure that your mouth is always in tiptop shape.

There are also certain herbal remedies that can effectively treat your mouth sores but be sure to consult your doctor first before consuming any. Some treatments may have untoward reactions to other parts of your body, even if they prove effective in treating mouth sores, so be very cautious and never self-medicate.

Acupuncture

PRESSURE SORES

Originating in China more than 2,000 years ago, acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used medical procedures in the world. This technique involves the use of small, slender needles that are gently inserted into specific areas along the body's meridians, or energy channels, in order to correct energetic imbalances.

Studies have shown acupuncture to be effective in relieving certain types of foot pain. Many acupuncture practitioners utilize acupuncture techniques to treat pain associated with the ankles, heels, and balls of the feet.

Bear in mind, however, that while successful in many cases, whether acupuncture is ultimately effective in treating foot pain depends on the nature of the pain. Acupuncture therapy can also be pricey, sometimes requires multiple treatment sessions, and in many cases is not covered by insurance. For these reasons, I suggest using acupuncture as a last resort while exploring one of the following Asian foot pain relief techniques describes below.

Reflexology

Reflexology is the practice of stimulating specific "pressure points" of the feet which, according to the practice of Oriental medicine, are thought to correspond to the various organs of the body.

According to reflexology, when certain areas of the body are out of balance, this causes flare up, or pain, in the bottom of the feet. Additionally, because the bottoms of the feet are the collection area for the pressure points of the body's organs, the bottoms of the feet are, themselves, highly sensitive, so even if you aren't convinced about the validity of reflexology, anyone who has experienced a reflexology massage can attest to the fact that afterwards, your feet, if not your entire body, will feel renewed and refreshed and released of pain!

Particularly for those who are active on their feet and experience chronic foot pain, an occasional professional reflexology massage, if available nearby, is highly recommended!

The only real drawback to a reflexology massage is the ongoing cost. At a cost of about per massage or more, most sore feet sufferers likely cannot afford to get a reflexology massage more than once a month or so.

Japanese Foot Massage Tools

The Japanese, who enjoy the world's highest life expectancy, are not coincidentally highly aware of and attentive to the importance of daily foot care.

Although acupuncture and reflexology originated in China, the Japanese were early adopters of these practices, and probably more than any other culture, diligently apply these principles specifically to foot care.

One likely reason for the Japanese attention to foot care is entirely practical: the Japanese are notorious walkers! Required to walk during the medieval period due to a prohibition on horseback travel, today, the Japanese continue to walk much more than most cultures due to the impractical nature of cars in Japan's large cities, where most of its population is concentrated.

As a result, the Japanese have invented a plethora of creative foot massage tools to combat sore foot pain. While Japan is well known for its highly advanced technical innovation, I believe that the most effective Japanese foot massage tool is also the country's oldest and most primitive.

Japanese Bamboo Foot Massager

The Japanese bamboo foot massager is just that, a piece of bamboo, naturally shaped to stimulate the arches of the feet, that is simply placed on the floor and stepped on for a soothing, gentle yet effective massage that provides instant foot pain relief.

This bamboo foot massager is said to have been invented when a wandering samurai chopped a piece of bamboo in half with his sword and stepped on the arched surface to soothe his aching feet.

From this lone samurai, the popularity of this foot massage tool exploded. Although little known outside of Japan, today in Japan you can find one of these in just about every Japanese household.

This Japanese foot massager is my favorite Asian remedy for sore feet because it is inexpensive, lightweight, easily portable, highly durable, easy to use, and most importantly, because it provides a great foot massage that provides daily relief from sore, aching feet just by using for a couple minutes per day.

Putting it All Together

Therefore, in utilizing my "secret" Asian sore feet remedies, I would suggest the strategy that I myself employ to keep your feet pain free: use a Japanese foot massage tool for daily maintenance; get a professional reflexology massage every month or two or as needed for a more intense and concentrated foot therapy session; and finally, consider acupuncture treatment as a last resort if you continue to experience chronic foot pain.

Follow the above strategy and I'm confident that you'll soon be free at last of unpleasant sore foot pain!

Fastest Way to Heal a Wound With Natural Remedies

To speed the wound healing process, you need to understand what is involved in wound healing. There are three phases: the inflammatory, proliferative, and remodeling phases. What happens in the healing process is a growth of millions of tiny blood vessels producing new capillaries. Wound edges are then pulled together and in the last phase, new collagen forms. Time may heal all wounds. But to encourage this to happen faster, there are several things that can be done.

How to heal open wounds faster? First aid guidelines...

PRESSURE SORES STAGES

Most wounds do not require emergency medical treatment. However, watch for signs of severity.
If the wound is either too deep, infected, if you can't control the bleeding, if there are still remaining debris after cleaning or if the wound is located on sensitive skin, medical wound care is usually much needed. You may also need steri strips or sutures to help close the wound and heal faster.

For any open wound, your main focus should be to reduce the bleeding and avoid infection by applying pressure on the wound. Next wrap a sterile and absorbent cloth (or a compress) around it.
To reduce bleeding, you can also raise the injured part above the level of the heart.
When the bleeding is controlled, an ice pack wrapped in a towel can be applied until it begins to feel numb. This helps constrict blood vessels. To clean the wound, rinse it out with clear water. Do not use soap because it can irritate the wound, so try to keep it out of the actual wound. Wound cleaning reduces the risk of infection and tetanus.

Fastest and safest wound treatments? Natural remedies...

In case of superficial open wounds, there are many natural remedies that can be used to help fight against the infection and regenerate new cells.

Colloidal silver to avoid further infection

Colloidal silver helps kill bacteria without damaging newly forming skin cells. It does not sting or burn. Other antiseptics sting when applied to a wound because they are killing the surrounding wall tissue cells. Colloidal silver does not harm the surrounding cells or tissue. Use a spray and sprinkle the colloidal silver over the affected area.

Herbal remedies and essential oils

If infection is still likely to happen, it is best to avoid applying aloe vera or any essential oils on the wound at this stage. Essential oils, such as tea tree or clove oil, provide excellent treatment to heal faster when infection is unlikely. Comfrey or calendula ointments can also be used topically.

Other tips to heal open wounds faster

Wounds heal faster if there is no pressure on them and if they are kept relatively motionless. Movement disrupts the formation of the new blood vessels. Bandages keep the wound clean, keep harmful bacteria out, and maintain moisture to prevent your skin from drying out. Bandages should be changed daily. However, after the wound has healed enough to make infection unlikely, exposure to the air will speed wound healing.

Other natural ways to heal an open wound? Nutrition...

Nutrition is definitely something to focus on. Whereas good nutrition facilitates healing, malnutrition can delay, inhibits and complicate the process.
Protein is required as part of the inflammatory process, in the immune response and in the development of tissue. The amino acid arginine is also important because it is abundant in the structure of collagen. Carbohydrates are needed for a healthy inflammatory response. Essential fatty acids are essential for skin membrane function. However, some studies show that fish oil supplements could slow down wound healing. Omega-3s from fish oil are anti-inflammatory, but you might want to avoid it for a while. Vitamin B, E, A, C, zinc and copper play key roles in wound healing.

Nuts, seeds, polyunsaturated oils such as flax, olive, or hemp oil, whole grains and beans should be part of your diet. Eat vegetables and fruits to get plenty of vitamins and minerals. A wound Diet Supplementation can also help heal faster. A study (Rohrich's study) shows that taking a herbal supplement called InflammEnz can heal a wound 20% faster. This herbal product combines several antioxidants, nutrients and enzymes, including calcium and potassium. But there are four in particular that are suspected of boosting the healing process : vitamin C, bromelain, rutin, and grape seed extract.

Natural Cold Sore Remedies

First of all, what are cold sores? Cold sores, despite their name, have actually nothing to do with colds. They are small, painful, fluid-filled blisters that usually appear on the lips, gums, or roof of the mouth. The herpes simplex virus causes the appearance and makes the sores contagious. Pain or tingling may turn up one or two days before the cold sores actually appear.

Nobody likes these kind of sore. They are ugly and very visible, which eventually leads to the question: how do you get rid of cold sores? Actually, they will go away without treatment. They usually disappear in five to ten days. However, there are certain cold sore remedies that can be used for treating or easing the pain of the sores. The first time a person acquires it, is usually worse than recurrent infections and must be treated with oral medications. Topical medications would suffice for recurring infections.

PRESSURE SORES

There are many cold sore remedies nowadays. There are, however, several remedies that are natural and are easy to use and find. One of these is lysine; lysine is an important amino acid, which means that we must get it through food or supplements because the human body cannot make lysine. Lysine is used to make protein which aids in the production of infection-fighting antibodies, body tissues, enzymes, and hormones. Lysine is found to cause the inhibition of the spread of the herpes simplex virus.

Lemon balm is also one of the natural cold sore remedies and is effective in healing and even in decreasing the frequency of recurrences. How is this so? First of all, lemon balm has antiviral properties. Secondly, in a research conducted in certain dermatology clinics and hospitals in Germany, lemon balm promoted the healing of the cold sores in five days instead of the usual ten. Lastly, regular usage of lemon balm cream also reduces the frequency of the appearance of the sores.

Even mushrooms can be used. Reishi or Ganoderma lucidum is a mushroom that is used in traditional Asian medicine to boost the immune system. It is believed that a typical dose of 600 milligrams once or twice a day prevents further spreading of the herpes simplex virus.

Resveratrol is a compound that can be found in red grapes is shown to be effective as another remedy due to the fact that laboratory studies show that it is active in fighting against the herpes simplex virus. There was a study that was conducted by the Northeastern Ohio University that proved that the topical application of resveratrol cream two, three, or five times a day suppressed the development of the virus if a applied one to six hours after the infection.

Some substances such as propolis can also be used. Propolis, or bee propolis is a substance that is a brownish substance that are used by bees to "cement" their hives. Propolis is believed to work by preventing the virus from entering the body cells and preventing the replication of the virus.

These are some cold sore remedies that are simple and natural, which makes them easy to find and use.

Highly Effective Home Remedies for Sore Feet

Common Causes of Chronic Sore Feet

gel cushions for pressure sores

Millions of people suffer from chronic sore, aching feet. Here I am referring not to serious food injuries or disorders, but rather, foot pain arising from common daily life activities. In fact, if you do suffer from chronically aching feet, chances are great that you fall into one of the following three categories:

PRESSURE SORES

1. Foot pain caused by physical activity.

Persons who engage in strenuous sports or physical fitness activities, such as running, walking, hiking, aerobics, tennis, golf, basketball, and other sports that put stress on the feet, are likely candidates to experience ongoing foot soreness at some point.

2. Foot soreness caused by uncomfortable shoes.

It is an unavoidable fact of our modern-day living that many professions and social norms require us to wear shoes designed for form rather than comfort or function. The main culprit here is high-heel shoes and other women's dress shoes. Ouch!

3. Aching feet caused by excessive standing.

Many people have jobs, such as food service industry jobs, require standing for long periods of time, or even entire work days. Persons engaging in such professions are highly likely to experience ongoing foot soreness.

In all of the above cases, while discontinuing the activities in question would certainly solve our sore feet problem, this is hardly a viable option. We play sports because we love to do so. We wear high heels and dress shoes because we want to look our best. And we work standing-intensive jobs, well, because we have to earn a living!

The question, then, is how can we continue to engage in the activities that we love and need to do and rid ourselves of our chronic sore foot problem?

My Best Home Remedies for Sore Feet

Since it is our ongoing, daily activities that are the cause of our chronic sore foot pain, we require ongoing, daily therapy and maintenance to combat chronic foot soreness. Therefore, although I highly recommend receiving an occasional foot massage at a reflexology clinic if available, here I'd like to offer my two favorite low-cost, easy-to-perform home remedies for sore feet.

1. Epsom Salt Bath

Epsom salts, a compound of magnesium and sulfate, offer soothing, low-cost foot relief. Readily available at your local drugstore or grocery store, simply pour about a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of salts into a tub of warm water and soak your feet for up to a half hour. The Epsom salts work to reduce inflammation of sore nerves and muscles and leave your feet feeling refreshed.

Epsom salts are a great home remedy for aching feet. The only real drawbacks to this method are the ongoing cost of replenishing the salts and the time required to prepare and take the foot bath.

2. Home Reflexology

My personal favorite do-it-yourself sore foot pain remedy is home reflexology. There are a number of home reflexology tools on the market, spanning the entire range of cost and effectiveness.

My personal favorite home reflexology tool is a little-known Japanese foot massage tool called the takefumi.

Takefumi Japanese Foot Massager

The takefumi foot massager is the traditional Japanese foot massage tool that has been used as the go-to home remedy for sore feet in Japan for centuries.

The takefumi is actually simply a piece of bamboo, about a foot long. The naturally curved hardness of the bamboo is cut and shaped to provide a perfect foot massage with just the right amount of pressure: not to gentle but not too intense!

I love the takefumi because it is inexpensive and super easy to use. Just lay it on the floor and step on it gently. You'll find that the arched shape of the takefumi begins to work immediately to stretch and massage the feet in the opposite direction of the downward pressure of gravity to blissfully release all the soreness and tension stored up in the feet.

I use my takefumi for a minute or two each morning and evening for daily foot maintenance and therapy, and immediately after engaging in any activity that causes my foot soreness to flare up. I've found that by following this simple routine, my chronic foot soreness has all but gone away and I now finally have control over my sore feet instead of my aching feet controlling and constantly plaguing me!

Cold Sore Treatment Through Natural Remedies

The medical community is currently frustrated by the lack of progress in providing a highly effective medicinal cold sore treatment, and as drug based solutions remain relatively expensive and with some risk of side effects, many sufferers turn towards natural remedies for a solution.

As there is no complete cure for the condition at present, any current cold sore treatment focuses on prevention, easing the symptoms, or healing. Because the virus awakes from its dormant state in the nerve cells only when the immune system becomes compromised in some way, it is important to ensure that the immune system is functioning at full strength, which can be achieved through regular exercise, diet and relaxation to minimize stress. However once an outbreak occurs we need to switch focus; we can help ease the symptoms of pain or itchiness and treat dry skin and cracks; and help reduce the impact of the virus to reduce the overall healing time and to ensure that the skin heals without scarring.

PRESSURE SORES STAGES

Cold sores usually take in the region of 7-10 days to complete the full cycle from tingling phase to healing and because the virus is contagious throughout these stages, remember to observe high standards of hygiene to ensure it is not spread, either to other parts of the body or to other people; always wash your hands after applying any topical remedy and avoid touching the lesion whenever possible.

Many sufferers find that taking regular L-lysine supplements both reduces the frequency and severity of outbreaks. Other simple remedies include the application of sunscreen, which is often recommended for cold sore sufferers due to the fact that prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can serve as a trigger for the outbreak.

Compounds such as phenol, zinc, tannic acid and lysine have antiviral properties, which inhibit the ability of the herpes virus to form lesions and help form an environment that speeds up the healing process. Besides these compounds, lip balms are used to soften and moisturize the scabs that form, reducing bleeding and cracking. A number of herbal medications are also useful in cold sore treatment, with herbal antiseptics such as tea tree oil and sage, and herbal sedatives such as violet, having been found to offer relief.

Many people have found that simply applying ice to the affected area can prove beneficial; when applied during the tingle stage it lowers the temperature and the metabolic rate of the area, thus slowing the development of cold sore; it also lessens itching and pain by acting as a numbing agent. Applying tea bags to the lesions is also often beneficial as tea contains tannic acid, which has been shown to minimize development of the sores, while applying a coating of moisturizing agents like petroleum jelly can help to prevent bleeding and cracking.

From this you can see that while medical advances in this field are moving slower than many would wish, there are some simple cold sore treatments available based on natural ingredients and everyday items found in the home. By taking some simple steps you can help minimize the impact of cold sore outbreaks on your life.

Cold Sore Home Remedies That Work

With pharmaceutical treatments proving to be of limited efficacy, many people have found that a variety of cold sore home remedies offer relief that is just as good, if not better. People have been suffering from cold sores for some 2,000 years and over that time a variety of herbs and treatments have been used to varying degrees of success. Here we look at some of the most effective remedies.

ICE: Ice is considered to be a universal home remedy against cold sores. Ice helps in relieving the pain, reduce the swelling as well as restrict the herpes virus from spreading. Ice treatment should be commenced when the itching begins. However, it is essential to note that ice should not be used during the healing stage as it slows down the speed of healing.

PRESSURE SORES STAGES

LYSINE: Lysine is a popular cold sore remedy, which can in some cases prevent the herpes simplex virus from producing the sore. Although lysine creams have been shown to have some effect, they are not well absorbed by the skin and it is really better to take lysine orally, either in the form of supplements or in the diet. One of the best dietary sources of lysine is the flounder, an ocean flatfish common to the northern Atlantic and Pacific oceans and consumption of this fish during a cold sore attack can reduce healing time by several days.

ALOE VERA: Aloe Vera is considered by many to be a miracle product and is used in many skin conditions to aid healing. While lotions containing Aloe Vera are readily available, you can grow the plant at home to provide a ready supply of the liquid contained in the leaves, which can help to heal your cold sore lesions.

WALNUTS: Although the consumption of walnuts should be avoided during an outbreak due to their high arginine content, they can be useful as a topical treatment. To prepare walnuts as a cold sore remedy, add to a blender to reduce to a paste and apply direct to the sore to aid healing.

TEA: The application of warm and mist tea bags can help your cold sores by reducing swelling and soreness. Tea contains tannic acid, which acts as an anti-viral agent, fighting there root cause of the outbreak.

As you can see there are a variety of remedies that are common to every household, as well as others that can be incorporated into our lives, such as the consumption of lysine contained in flounder. By trying each of the cold sore home remedies mentioned above you will find what effect it has on your body and by a little experimentation should find a combination that improves you condition.

Natural Remedies for a Sore Throat

A sore throat is one of the most common ailments afflicting people around the world; it is usually caused by a virus or bacteria and is often accompanied by nasal congestion, fever, and other symptoms of the common cold. Sore throats can also be caused, or exacerbated, by smoking, dry heat, or allergic reactions. A sore throat is rarely cause for a trip to the doctor; there are a number of steps you can take on your own to alleviate your discomfort.

wheelchair cushions for pressure sores

If you smoke, quit. There are a thousand good reasons to quit smoking now; the fact that cigarette smoke is extremely irritating to the throat lining is one of them. Because dry heat is another throat irritant, you can run a cool-mist vaporizer or humidifier in your bedroom while you sleep. The added moisture in the air will help prevent your throat lining from becoming too dry while you're sleeping. If it's winter and you're running heat in your house, you can place a bowl of water over the radiator or heating vent in your bedroom; this will have roughly the same effect as a humidifier.

PRESSURE SORES

Throw away your old toothbrush and use a new one; bacteria tend to collect on the bristles, and can enter your system through tender areas in your gums. It's a good practice in general to change your toothbrush on a regular basis.

One of the easiest ways to provide quick relief for a sore throat is a saltwater gargle. Salt can act as an antiseptic, and it draws water from the mucous membranes in your throat; the water helps clear phlegm. Dissolve a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and gargle, at least four times a day. Sore throat lozenges, which you can purchase in most convenience stores, also serve to increase saliva production and lubricate the throat. However, be careful giving throat lozenges to small children; they may choke on them.

In general, drink plenty of fluids. Some people prefer cold liquids, or even sucking on ice cubes or popsicles; others prefer warm drinks such as tea or plain warm water. There seems to be broad disagreement as to whether warm liquids or cold liquids are better for a sore throat; the bottom line is, keep your throat irrigated, and drink whatever feels soothing!

One interesting concoction for soothing a sore throat, recommended by some, is to add one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, a pinch of cayenne pepper, the juice from a quarter of a lemon, and a teaspoon of honey to a cup of hot water. Drink one cup four times a day. The prospect of downing such a potent cocktail may be sufficient for one to take adequate preventive measures and avoid succumbing to a sore throat to begin with. Honey, however, has antibacterial properties and has long been used to treat sore throats; honey also draws water from inflamed tissues in your throat, reducing swelling. Add several teaspoons of honey to a glass of hot herbal tea or hot water, or make hot lemonade with honey, adding several teaspoons to hot water mixed with the juice from half a lemon.

Other common food items that can alleviate a sore throat include Vitamin C (drink orange juice or some other citrus drink); Vitamin C will boost your immune system and help fight off infection. Also, dried garlic has antibacterial and antiseptic properties; you can add extra garlic to your food as a seasoning.

Various other natural products have been shown to help. Slippery Elm is a tree common to eastern North America; the inner bark of this tree contains mucilage, a gel that swells when mixed with water. This mucilage has been traditionally used as a sore throat cure; it is believed to reduce throat irritation. It is sold in capsule form, and is also found in various herbal teas. Check at your local health-food store.

Licorice root has also long been used as a remedy for sore throats; it is a common ingredient in various herbal teas. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, this root has been used to help treat a variety of ailments including stomach ulcers, canker sores, and viral infections. You should not consume licorice root in large amounts, however, as it can cause high blood pressure and lower your body's potassium level. Marshmallow root has also been used for centuries to treat sore throats; add one tablespoon of dried marshmallow root to a cup of boiling water and let it steep for 30 minutes before straining. Like slippery elm, marshmallow contains mucilage.

A sore throat should only last a few days; if the condition persists, you may wish to see a doctor. And be sure to see a doctor if you have severe throat pain or difficulty swallowing; blood in your saliva or phlegm; tender or swollen lymph nodes in your neck; white or yellow patches in the back of your throat; pus in your throat; or other unusual symptoms.

Simple Remedies to Cure Your Sore Throat

Having a sore throat can be a big problem. It is as if you can no longer go to work because it affects the whole body especially when your job requires you to talk to other people.

It may depend on what your condition is. There are sore throats which are just starting and there are also which are at their worst stage. In any case, there should always be a medicine to this problem. Before anything else, we should understand that it is the pain that we feel at the back of the throat. This usually occurs when you have a cold and feeling a bit sick.

PRESSURE SORES STAGES

There are several pointers on how to fix your throat problem. The first thing that we should remember or do is to gargle with a good mouthwash that has the right chemicals that kill bacteria. This is often the primary reason why there is sore throat. This happens often on the first day that you catch a cold because sometimes they are also symptoms of sickness. In any case, gargling with a mouthwash will certainly help. Just remember not to share the cup with the rest of your family members to avoid them from being infected.

If you do not want to spend much for a mouthwash, then you can consider having boiled ginger and drink it as tea with lesser sugar. Red ginger is good to reduce the pain especially if you drink it hot.

You can also try to dissolve salt in a cup of water and gargle it every two hours. You can prepare this solution by adding half a teaspoon of salt to a cup of warm water. It lessens the pain and even kills the bacteria in your throat. This is a cheaper way of curing sore throat although it is a bit of an effort from your side if you plan to do this.

Another pointer on how to fix this problem is to keep drinking water because somehow it relive the dryness and pain of a sore throat.

The last step that you can do if all else fails is you can go to a doctor and have him to prescribe the right type of medicine. Sometimes, it may not be an ordinary sore throat, but a more complex problem which you have to deal with. You should remember though that pain relievers give only temporarily relieve and it may just come back. The best thing to do is to have your throat check by a specialist rather than let the problem persist or recur. Sore throat can cause discomfort so do not let it bring you down.
